This collection includes deeds (including a copy of a 1701 Indian deed), writs, and petitions, as well as other legal documents (e.g., warrant, guardianship appointment, indenture, approbation, bond, promissory note, receipt). There is a tax assessment list, 1781; "A List of the Polls and of the Estates, Real and Personal, of the several Proprietors and Inhabitants of the Town of Lancaster ...," 1784; tax assessment list for highway repair, 27 May 1794; "Apportionment of School money for the year 1801," 24 December 1801; list of voters, 16 February 1807; and "A Record of Highways ...," 20 April 1811. The collection also includes a plan, dated 1658, for the six hundred acre farm of Capt. Richard Davenport ( - ), a letter of dismissal, dated 5 May 1760, from the First Church of Lancaster for Joseph and Elizabeth Whitcomb, and a letter, dated 11 April 1779, to Rev. Samuel Mather (1706-1785) in Boston, Mass., from members of the Second Church of Lancaster requesting a council to review complaints lodged against their pastor.
